Offering a Relational Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy service tailored to your assessed needs and goals. I provide commitment, reliability, a professional down-to-earth approach, and a safe, caring environment.
Sessions are usually for one hour weekly. However, this may be adjusted, especially when coming to the end of counselling/therapy. Commitment and regular attendance is important, as this helps to build a trusting therapeutic relationship, and gives continuity in supporting you to explore your difficulties and take the required steps to move forward.
Introductory Meeting
The Client and therapist relationship is paramount to facilitating good outcomes. You may also be nervous or unsure if counselling is for you, if it’s the right time or if integrative therapy suits your requirements.
I offer a free, no-obligation consultation up to 30 minutes, to answer queries and also explore how we feel about working together. This consultation maybe held by phone, online or in-person.
Individual Work
I offer the first session at a reduced cost of £50 for up to 60 minutes where we will complete an assessment together – a pen picture of your background/current situation, explore what you are struggling with and what you want to achieve. If you have previously had counselling/therapy, we will discuss what has previously been useful or not. You can also ask any further questions (and at any other time).
Each session thereafter is £60 for up to 60 minutes.
Couples/Relationship Work
I offer the first session at a reduced cost of £60 for up to 60 minutes where we will jointly complete an assessment – a pen picture of the background/current situation in your relationship, and gather some individual information. This will also include discussing what brought you initially together, the strengths and weaknesses in your relationship and what you both want to achieve. Couples counselling looks at the relationship as a whole, and ‘homework’ may be allocated. My role is to remain objective, facilitate change and bring about a resolution by helping you both communicate/connect more effectively. Sometimes individual counselling/therapy is utilised alongside with a different therapist(s). As the couples counselling progresses you and your partner may find a way to overcome what brought you originally into therapy, or you may decide to separate; perhaps more amicably or with more of a sense of closure. It is important that you are both committed to attending sessions.
Each session thereafter is £70 for up to 60 minutes.
EMDR Treatment
EMDR is an 8-stage approach and sessions are from 1 to 1.5 hours.
1) - History Taking: gather information about your background, physical/mental health information, what difficulties you are experiencing, triggers etc.
2) - Client Preparation: involves explaining about the theory and process of EMDR and answering queries. Time will also be spent developing your relaxation techniques and internal resources to assist you with reducing your stress levels in and out of the therapy room.
3-6) - Assessment, Desensitization, Installation & Body Scan: Identify target memories to work on and the related negative and positive beliefs held about yourself. Tailored bilateral stimulation will be commenced to reprocess the memories and then embed the positive beliefs. A body scan is completed to identify and reduce residue distress left in the body.
7-8) - Closure & Re-evaluation: offers time to feel grounded/calm using relaxation techniques previously embedded. The last session will be jointly reviewed and a decision made on how to proceed with the work.
EMDR Sessions are £65 for up to 60 minutes or £95 up to 1.5 hours
Other Information
1.5 hour and 2 hour sessions available if needed. Fees adjusted accordingly.
Some concessions may be considered.
‘Sarah has been a lifesaver for me. With Sarah's help I have been able to come to terms with a lifetime of emotional abuse and the impact that has had on me, and more importantly, gain an understanding of the behaviours I have shown throughout my life, in part as a result of that abuse. Through being a sympathetic and engaged listener, and often challenging when I've needed it, Sarah has helped me to discover positive aspects of me as a person and worked to develop strategies where those aspects control my choices in life. In the time I have worked with Sarah I have moved from a very dark place where I hurt those closest to me and wished harm on myself, to a place where I'm facing a future with hope and a confidence that I can live the life I want and deserve’.
‘Therapy has shifted a huge weight off my shoulders...'
'I feel that my life has been dramatically changed for the better...'
'Approachable and non-judgemental, and this has been invaluable to me'.
'I have discovered lots about myself... I feel like a new person'.
'Sarah was extremely kind, understanding and also flexible when I had to change sessions a few times at short notice. Having EMDR has completely transformed my life. Having used many kinds of treatment and coping skills in the past, I have never experienced such a massive change in my Complex PTSD as I have with EMDR'.
